For details, see NAVADMIN Message 295/04. Disbursing clerks maintain pay records and process travel claims for the Navy using microcomputer programs. DKs are also responsible for computing the financial reports for all ships and shore bases. DKs learn banking, cash handling, bookkeeping and auditing skills. What They Do The duties performed by DKs include using computers to compute pay and prepare payroll information using computers to pay travel monies preparing financial reports serving as cashiers to pay government funds keeping files and accounting records for payments of government funds. maintaining automated teller machines onboard ships providing customer service by answering personal financial questions as mandated by law acting as collect ion agents of money owed to U.S. Treasury by Navy personnel. Detailed List of Required Duties ASVAB Score VEAR104 Other Requirements Have not been convicted or received punishment for any crime incident to larceny or fraud by a Courts-Martial under the UCMJ, under article 15 of the UCMJ or by a civilian court within the previous 36 months. Technical Training Information Enlistees are taught the fundamentals of this rating through on-the-job training or formal Navy schooling. Advanced technical and operational training is available in this rating during later stages of career development. A typing test is required sometime during training. In a 20-year period in the Navy, DKs may spend 50 percent of their time assigned to fleet units and 50 percent to shore stations.
